"The Stunning" Take Control Safety Tips.

"The Stunning" is an affective tool for aiding against sexual assault and rape, but there is no substitute for following the rules of basic safety at all times.  Every person, whether wearing “The Stunning” ring or not, should rely on behavior that maximizes his or her personal safety.  Please take time to consider the following tips for your safety.

Be aware of your surroundings

Attackers usually rely on surprise and their victims’ inability to respond.  By consciously increasing your awareness of your surroundings, you can be more prepared for the unexpected.

Stay with a friend or group

Attackers of all kinds prefer single victims, who are easier to intimidate and overpower.  Whenever possible, stay with friends, either male or female. If you are going out alone, inform a friend or roommate of your plans, who you will be with, and when you expect to return.  Although carrying a cell phone can get you out of potentially dangerous situations (like your car breaking down in an unfamiliar neighborhood), it is of little use at the moment of attack – don’t think of your phone as a substitute for walking with a friend.

Stay in safe places

Attackers prefer private, secluded places to carry out their plans.  They also need an opportunity for the attack – when you are not expecting it and unprepared to respond.  By choosing where you go and how you spend your time there, you can deprive potential attackers of these things..

Don’t be afraid to ask for help

Asking for help is not a sign of weakness, but of your ability to take control of a situation.  If you sense any thing at all unusual (such as two men waiting in a van next to your parked car), find a security guard, policeman, or other trustworthy person to accompany you until you feel safe.  If your campus or workplace has an escort service, use it.

Don’t be afraid to say no

Attackers often try to take advantage of the natural human instinct to accept another person’s generosity.  Someone offering to help you and or give you something might not always have the best intentions.  You may annoy a helpful person by refusing his help, but he should understand that your need for safety is more important than his need to help or impress you.
